By now I'm sure you've heard of how the amazingly successful "Nuts for Jericho" campaign went over the past few weeks. I could practically hear television network execs country-wide brace themselves for truckloads of other odd foods and trinkets from die-hard fans of shows they'd taken a hatchet to in the past year. First up: Dawn Ostroff of The CW for putting Veronica Mars on the chopping block. I sure hope for her sake that she has a sweet tooth.A rather large band of Veronica Mars fans, who won't take the news of the show's death lying down, have started a campaign to ship as many Mars Bars to the person in charge of CW programming, Dawn Ostroff, in hopes that the gesture will force her hand not to sign the final cancellation papers for the show. How many have they sent so far? Put it this way: they've located every last remaining Mars Bar in the country and have moved onto whatever the heck left they can find that's even remotely related to the show.
In case you didn't know, the drop-dead date for any show cancellation decisions at The CW is June 15th, just five days away. Read the organizing party's website for more info on how to help.
[Thanks to the multitude of people who sent in this tip!]

I like the suggestion of buying the last episode on iTunes this Tuesday (it's normal air date) to show them how many fans there are. That to me would make more of an impact than a Mars Bar. Plus it was a good episode to watch again.
Thanks for sharing this info. I will definitely call the feedback line, drop an email, etc. :)

This is why I hate Jericho. Now any crazy fans have a show that's canceled (and VM ratings were horrid at best) will send in lame things to try to save it.

Haha, I actually came here just now precisely because I was looking for tips on how to save Veronica Mars. I already emailed the CW, but I'll go buy a bag of marshmallows and mail it tomorrow.
I would consider buying the episode on iTunes, but there are two problems with that: 1, I am only up to the beginning of Season 2; and 2, I don't use iTunes.

There is no way this is going to work. I liked the show but how is sending the CW candy going to put it back on? It makes no sense. Maybe if all the fans went to LA and threw candy at her she might put it back on in fear, but this sounds more like a campaign to feed all the workers at the CW with snacks.

The VM fans are pathetic. Copying another show's successful campaign? Lame. Plus, they've had 3 friggin' seasons and the show never managed to climb out of the ratings basement in all that time. The only year it wasn't the lowest rated drama was this year and it was only "beat' by Runaway, which was canceled after two episodes. Jericho ended up at #48, beating a bunch of other shows that were renewed. Jericho deserved its second chance, VM does not deserve a 4th chance. The VM fans just need to accept that TV a business, their show failed after multiple chances, and let it go already.

My thought is that it's June 10, tomrrow is obviously the 11th. You think The CW president is gonig to read the mail before Friday? Not a chance.
And once again 3 season and no ratings increase, same with Arrested Development. It's not CWs or Fox's fault no one watched the shows.
Well it is kind of CW's fault because no one watching the network anyways.

Don't blame Jericho; Trekkies did the same thing 39 years ago to get their show a third season. (The management of the Globe Theater probably got similar treatment when they initially decided Henry IV didn't need a part II...)

Annie, can you really blame them? Seeing a lesser show get renewed due to a savvy fan campaign should, if anything, give them hope. The save Veronica Mars campaign has been going on for a while, this is just another tactic added on. I've been following Jericho as well and it certainly does deserve a second chance, but qualitatively VM is the better show--despite the ratings issues.
CW screwed this season by demanding shorter arcs, and was just never able to sell the show before as UPN. Seeing as it's the only decent hourlong they would have next season, I think it would still be in their best interest to give it another run.

M&M Mars stopped selling Mars bars in the US a couple years ago. They're sold as Snickers with Almonds, now. You would have to have them imported from the UK or Canada.

For all the nay sayers, if you don't like the show, why waste your time posting about it?
Also, anyone who equates ratings with quality is a moron. Look at the ratings of the top 10 shows. Are you going to tell me with a straight face that those are the best 10 shows on television?
Before Jericho, Firefly fans got a movie made by buying assloads of Firefly DVD sets.
Now, having said that, I agree that the 3rd season of VM was the weakest, and the first season was by far the strongest. I'd like to see it turn around, but I don't think the college thing works. Maybe the weaker season was caused by network notes, or maybe it was caused by not having an interesting serial story line.
My big regret is that there were a couple of story lines that could have been main focuses of season 3, but were not. Meg's sister/Lamb's past, Fitzpatrick tie up, couple of others, but maybe they didn't want to burden season 3 with a backstory... What I liked about the first season is that every little plotline seemed to matter. Less so in the second season, and not at all in the 3rd...
Oh well, hope they get a shot a VM in the FBI, or something else, as long as they keep the father daughter pairing...

Okay, someone needs to put a stop to all the Save Our Show campaigns. Taken in isolation, something like the Jericho "nuts" campaign can work wonders, but when every cancelled show gets one (and in recent years, I've seen "fans" gearing up before a show's even started) they lose their impact and cease to mean anything.
There's no question that Veronica Mars was a great show, there's also no question that its ratings were terrible. The show's dead, give it up. Really. Because in a year or two there'll be another really great show that gets cancelled, and when you try to save that one, no one'll be listening.

Ratings matter Steve. Ratings for VM have always been really bad. If the show doesn't make money than it's canceled.
Firefly was never given a chance. Futurama and Family Guy were never really given a chance either, and were treated like dirt.
VM was given a chance, three of them in fact. That's more than most shows ever will get. it's dead, it's too late to stop it and move on to a different show. Best you can hope for is a TV movie or something to close the storylines.

Ratings are important but The Game and Girlfriends got, on average, the same and less than Veronica Mars and they got renewed. Ratings are sometimes used an excuse as to cancel a show that just isn't wanted anymore. Wasn't Angel officially cancelled due to ratings, yet that year their ratings had been a lot better?

YES there was so much more they could have done, I really wanted to see more about Lamb's past. It became fluffy this year.. And that's NOT what the show is supposed to be about. We watch it because it's different than a lot of drama shows, it's all about the mystery!
But I have to agree that the end of season 3 was great. And it's a great setup for a much improved season 4 I tell you. I'm going to donate now, I don't want to give up on this show! Here's the link if anyone is interested.

And we aren't doing this because Jericho did and was successful, we have been campaigning for a long time now. Before we were sending Mars Bar wrappers, and postcards, and calling networks, raising awareness, we had an AD in the Holywood reporter on Thursday, that we raised almost $2,000 to have done! The fact of the matter is this is a brilliant show. I've seen every episode, and I don't have a nielsen box. Doesn't mean I don't exist!

First of all, I love Veronica Mars and I wish it would continue. But no offense to the fans out there- but I've heard nothing but bit-hing from people the last two seasons. From the those who didn't like the arc last year with the bus, and PCH murders -to how it was resolved with Cassidy. Then there are those who just didn't like the short arc (the rapes, the Dean). Then there are those who didn't like the stand alone episodes. So I have no clue what would make fans happy-- cause if they flashed ahead 4yrs I'm sure there would be an uproar about something.
Again-- I love Veronica Mars and I really enjoyed all three seasons. I think VM suffers from things like Lost and Hereos do -- there isn't a way to make their fans 100% happy There just seems to be a large base compalining about something
Which I think can lead to problems -- and major ones if you already suffer from low ratings. From the network side of things -- the CW gave it a great time slot, ratings still weren't coming in. And you have the fans bit-hing online about this and that. What are they supposed to do. Yes, I'd like another season -but I can see why it won't be back.
I'd like to offer a suggestion. Sit back, Relax, and Enjoy.
I love good tv, but I let go and just try to relax and enjoy what I'm watching. I think all these online groups to that end up tearing apart shows that they love is just sad/ Cause it's going to lead to " well we can't please the fans, so let's end it"
You know what I mean? Just a thought I had. And I know it's just people get so into something and wnat every aspect of it to be perfect. I understand that
Oh but about Dawn Ostroff- I hope the Mars bars work, but do you think she cares. What about Everwood last year and the fu-kin' ferris wheel. She didn't give a sh-t about that-- and that was a fuc-in' ferris wheel!

Do you think TV shows are made for free? They cost money, VM most likely cost a lot more than their other shity shows do. More cost, same or lower ratings get's VM canceled.

To all the nay-sayers, what is your purpose in this thread? To be negative and belittling to a show & its fanbase? By your comments, you are obviously not fans, so why kick actual fans when they are working so hard to save something they care about? If it were "your" show, I'm sure you would be equally concerned. And to those who are claiming Mars fans are "copying" Jericho - Grow up. Veronica Mars fans are famous for extravagant gestures of fan loyalty. Jericho was not the first & network "bombardment" has been done forever. If you're intelligent in any sense, you would be applauding fans of Veronica Mars and Jericho for fighting for quality television.
By all means, express your opinions, but show some respect in the face of such an ambitious campaign.

All this talk of 'poor' ratings is imho a little unfair.
Firstly there wasnt a returning scripted show that did better on the CW than it did on either EXCEPT Veronica Mars. As a network the CW which was in more homes than either theWB or UPN was simply failed to grab the audiences imagination so building on the Average Viewers from last year was an acheivement for VM.
And then you have the night it aired. VM isnt a new show so even with the changes getting new viewers was always going to be tough and the GG lead in isnt as strong as the Americas Next Top Model it had on UPN. DESPITE this, and the fact that it had House, The Unit and part of Dancing With the Stars airing against it the ratings from Oct to Jan were really pretty good (3.02mill average).
Then the ratings killer we know as American Idol started, sometime running directly against VM, sometimes just bumping House to record figures and that killed ratings. Dancing with the stars result show didnt help either. It does not take a genius to know that if you schedual a show in a slot where AI airs at the start of the night, often spilling into the shows timeslot that ratings will dip.
Were ratings anything to write home about? no they werent but they were also not as bad when you look at the bigger picture as people make them out to be
